What's going on in Scoil Chiaráin this year?!
Some of you may or may not know, that Scoil Chiaráin CBS is a member of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust. Edmund Rice founded the Christian Brothers. He dedicated his life working on behalf of those who did not a voice, who lived on the margins of society and tried to show kindness of heart and action in all he did to all he encountered. These are qualities we try to instill in and share with the boys of our school on a daily basis. There is always room for improvement. A secondary school in Tralee Co Kerry, who is also a member of the Edmund Rice Trust, began a campaign calling for Change earlier this year. They want to play their part in the campaign to eradicate homelessness in Ireland, as they were shocked how many young people were suffering because of this.
They began a petition and want to gather 500,000 signatures nationwide and present it to Dáil Éireann. We joined this campaign yesterday and all of our pupils and adults have signed.
Please continue to read below to find out more about this fantastic campaign.
This year the Edmund Rice Schools Trust has focussed on the theme from our Charter of responding to a changing world. Unfortunately, in today’s Ireland Homelessness is at crisis point. A home is a fundamental and life-givingthread, which helps to weave families together as one. It provides us with a sense of security, a place where we can relax, and study so that we can reach our potential and be happy.
But almost every day in Ireland, the ever increasing number of families and children without a place to call home is headline news.
It doesn't have to be this way.
We can and must end homelessness.
That's why we are signing the One Campaign for Change petition -https://www.change.org/p/irish-governenment-political-representatives-help-us-end-homelessness-in-ireland
We are saying that this generation must make homelessness history.
We, the students of Edmund Rice Schools in Ireland, have a strong voice when we come together.
Our succesful WOW idea is back for the final term of this school year.
What is WOW? IT's quite simple really .............. We Walk On Wednesday!
The children are encouraged to walk to school on Wednesdays if possible. For those children who live further away we suggest that they get dropped further down the road than usual so they can get a little walk in. Please remind the children to cross at teh lights or with Irene!
On Monday only 46% of our school waoked to school! We are hoping to improve this over the next couple of weeks!
Who will win the Golden Boot tomorrow and earn some active triangles for their class!
